Assisted Living and Independent Living Staff

 Kent Mulkey - Executive Director

In his book, “Tipping Point,” Malcolm Gladwell suggests that in order to become an expert at a particular craft, at least 10,000 hours of practice is required.  Without claiming to be an expert at anything, I am grateful for the nearly 15,000 hours I invested helping college students, adults and seniors find solutions to their challenges.  In addition, my life has been graced with amazing mentors: from my high school track coach, a church youth leader, and most importantly, my dear grandmother, a hilarious woman we grew up calling “Goggy.”  As often as she threatened to lock us kids out of her refrigerator because of our long hair, she always demonstrated acceptance and and a vision for my future.  My career working with seniors was launched by the example of her graceful aging.  My first opportunity to work in a senior community was about 15 years ago.  An officer in the company asked me how it was that I related so naturally with our residents.  The answer was simple:  I owed it all to Goggy.  She taught me how to laugh, esp. at my own foibles.  She was always devouring 3-4 books at a time.  Fortunate to have worked in a host of capacities in senior living, now I have the opportunity to serve in the role of “Senior Living Counselor.”  I look forward to helping you find solutions that will allow everyone in your family to enjoy a rich and fulfilling life. – Kent Mulkey-

I just recently graduated from Ball State University in Indiana and moved to Colorado.  Upon arriving in Colorado I did not know anyone in the Denver area.  It amazed me how friendly and welcoming all the staff and residents are at Keystone.  They immediately made me feel right at home! -Brent Kingen-

I have been working in apartment, hotel, and building maintenance and housekeeping for the last 11 years.  I truly enjoy taking care of my resident’s requests for assistance not only for maintenance, but anything else they require assistance with. – James Zeleznik -

Valerie Barnes – Assisted Living Chef Manager

We have reflected on the last year, and what a year it has been! I would like to look to the future. I can imagine the A.L.  building full and bustling. I can see residents from both sides playing shuffleboard and golf. The pool will be helping everyone stay fit. The new residents will test their wits against the staff in more games and competitions. And we will all enjoy the beautiful spring & summer to come. A little secret though, I’m  still be looking for my favorite time of year to show itself “WINTER”! I haven’t built my annual snowman and I was looking to increase my wintertime actives. Plus cooking in the winter is one of the best things to do. So I’ll wish for snow in this New Year, Just a little… And best wishes to all of you for 2011. - Chef Valerie -
