The Gardens at Keystone Woods

Fitness:

1.Chair Yoga adapted especially for seniors given by professional teacher Every Mon. afternoon, 1:30pm
2. Chair Exercise with Activity Director emphasizing deep breathing, stretching, gentle strengthening, incorporating Yoga, Tai Chi and balance techniques. Every Tuesday, 1:30pm.
3. Weight Training every Thursday, 1:30pm with professional instructor who creates and follows residents individually.

Services:

1. Van transport to medical appts every Tues/Thursday, all day.
2. Van transport to Catholic/Protestant services every Sunday, Synagogue by request also on Saturdays.
3. Van transport to Mall or Walmart, twice a month.
4. Avada Hearing services 1x/mo.
5. SHINE counselling once a month or by appointment
6. Footcare once a month by appointment
7. Trip to public library once a month
8. Resident Council 2/8 2:30pm with all departments and the Executive Director
9. Van transport to two local grocery stores every Monday morning starting 9am.

In-Services:

1. Sundance Rehab on "Staying in Step" Balance evals and exercises, Monday 2/1 3pm.
2. Grief and Healing Workshop on 2/10, 2pm; a full program with presentation, handouts and thoughtful suggestions given by Baystate Medical Hospice.
3.Senior Fitness assessments by Sundance Rehab on 2/25 and 2/26, 1:30pm; individual assessments to aid individuals in planning for physical needs given by P.T. dept.
4. "Motivation to Move" 2/26 presentation by Gentiva Health.
5. PVTA transportation, an inservice by the director informing our residents on how to use this service. 2/4/ 10:30am.

Specials:

1. "Galapagos Islands", slide show, lecture by Naturalist Sonya Vickers, 2/2,7pm
2. Slides and narration by PhotoJournalist Roger Hart, 2/9, 7pm3.
3. Flood of 1938, movie speical, 2/16 6:30pm
4. Talent Night, our own show on 2/23 7pm
5. Spa Night on 2/3, 6:30pm, experiencing a wide variety of organic personal care products.
6. Read Aloud to Mary Lynch Elementary School 2/10 10am: once a month.

Crafts:

1. Tole painting with Vi every other Sat. 1:30pm. Professional teacher.
2. Photo Collage on 2/28 1:30pm, a continuing project to create collages from Keystone photo collections suitable for framing and then to be hung for viewing in appropriate setting.
3. Making cupcakes with Marge, 2/11, 2pm.
4.Make Your Own Jewelry with Sandy Merrill, 2/23, 2pm, a favorite activity with the ladies.
5. Scrapbooking; introductory class given by professional teacher Nancy LaFlamme showing how photo memory albums can be created with digital and non-digital pictures; 2/22 7pm, with hopes of having on-going workshops in scrapbooking.

Religion:

1. Mass once a month
2. Bible study and Ecumenical Service with communion given by our own Resident Rev. Charles Summers once a month each.
3. Bible Study, sharing and discussion with Pastor Greg Dyson, 2/18 2:30pm.
4. Transportation to local churches/synagogue every weekend.
5. Rosary every Wed a.m. 10am.

Entertainment:

1. 2/17 6:30pm, "Love and Laughter" with British Showman Derek Mann.
2. 2/12 4 -6pm, a Valentine's evening of Love Songs with Crooner Dave Colucci, a Keystone favorite.

Themes:

1. Black History Week being celebrated with a festival day, 2/8, starting with "The Sounds of Jazz", a musical stroll through the best in Jazz, Black History Dinner Special, 4 - 6pm, and "Ghana Today", 6:30pm presented by teacher Andrea Boyko who will share her experiences in setting up "Teachers for Ghana", summer programs for the children followed by her Ghanian Marketplace, tables of African Crafts and goods for residents to peruse.

Cognitive:

1. American History Tuesdays, 10am. Current topic: Beginning of the Civil War.
2.Current Events 2x/mo.
3. Book of the Month Club 2/22 3pm; Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit weekly.

Clubs:

1. Garden Belle's Women's Club and Men's Club of Keystone Woods meet monthly and create social events and fundraising activities for local charities.
2. Knitting club meet bi-monthly working on projects for charities or local schools.

Trips:

1. Lunch out to the Fort, German restaurant 11:30 2/3
2. Sing Along and Social at the PinePoint Senior Center on 2/17 10am, our first shared activity with outside senior center.
3. Lunch out at Lido Italian restuarant, 2/17, 11:45am
4. Dinner out to Whately Inn, 2/24, 4pm
5. Men's Club lunch out to Somer's Inn, Somers CT, 2/26 11:30.
6. Shop Mall/Macy's 2/24 1:30pm; shop Walmart 2/19 10am

Light Recreation:

1. Cards and movie every night.
2.BINGO three times per week, also Pitch, Mah Jongg, Bridge and Scrabble.
3."Opera du Jour" 2/27 1pm, an opera favorite shown for residents.
4. Talent Show rehearsal three times this month in preparation for show on 2/23 7pm.
5. Coffee Hour every Thursday 8:30 - 10:30 am in Acitivity Room just for socializing.
6. Marge's Cupcake social, decorating valentine's cupcakes with tea, 2/11 2pm.
7. Dean Martin Speicals, 2/21 and 2/28, 7pm, DVDs of Dean's Las Vegas Shows.

Other:

1. Celebrating and promoting National Red Wear Day, 2/5.
2. Super Bowl, refreshments and game 7pm, 2/7.
3. Read Aloud, 2/10,10am. Residents volunteer at our "adopted" school, Mary Lynch Elementary, a very popular program.

Keystone Place at Blairs Ferry

Special Valentine’s Dinner—Wednesday, February 3rd For this special dinner we are asking that residents come down to be seated from
4:45-5:00. The meal will be served at 5:00. We would like to have everyone seated by 5:00pm. There will also be piano music with Joy Weiler from 5:00-6:30pm.

Letters to the Troops—Thursday, February 4th
On Feb. 4th at 2:00 we will be taking some time to sit down and write letters to the Troops who are
stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq and Germany. Pens & paper will be provided, however feel free to bring your own if you have something you prefer to use. If you would rather write a letter or note at your own convenience you may do that and turn your letter into the activity department to be mailed at
any time.

Super Bowl 2010—Sunday, February 7th
The 2010 Super Bowl game will be on CBS starting around 6:30pm. If residents would like to watch the game together they can gather in the activity room where snacks and pop will be provided by Keystone for the game!

Don’t forget to wear your black Keystone Vests on the Tuesday, the 9th!

Ash Wednesday Service—Wednesday, February 17th There will be an Ash Wednesday service at the Keystone Cedars chapel on Feb. 17th. Keystone Place residents are welcome to attend the service. If residents would like a ride over to Cedars they can sign up in the outing book. The Place bus will be leaving at 9:10 to take residents to the 9:30 service. Residents are welcome to go over to Cedars on their own in they like.

Census!
The 2010 Census is coming up soon! Everyone will be getting Census info in the mail sometime in March. This years Census will be one of the shortest in history! With only 10 questions it should take only 10 minutes to fill out! Filling out the Census helps determine the distribution of government funding to our community, it generates thousands of jobs across the country and impacts your voice in Congress! Please make sure you take 10 minutes to fill it out when you get it!

Learn to Play Cribbage!
Ernest & Doris McMillan have been kind enough to continue teaching various card games to the
residents of Keystone every Thursday at 10:00 in the activity room. For the month of February they will be teaching Cribbage! If you don’t know how to play, please stop in and they will be happy to teach you! Also if you have suggestions for other games to learn please let Ernest or Doris know about them.

Valentine’s Vote
Cast your vote for the Valentine’s Day King and Queen for 2010! Voting Ballots will be in the
restaurant for residents and staff to vote for the residents of their choice. The King & Queen will be crowned on Friday, February 12th at the 3:30 Valentine’s Social Hour. Be sure to cast your vote before then!

Keystone Cedars

Special Valentine’s Lunch—Thursday, February 4th
Residents are invited to enjoy a special Valentine’s day meal with special music by Judy Mehlert.

10:00pm Fire Drill—Wednesday, February 17th
Its that time again! Time for a third shift fire drill! On Feb 17th at 10:00pm we will be having a fire drill. Milk and cookies will be passed out to the residents after the drill for a bed time snack! Mark your calendars!
