Hubbard Place Independent Living
at Keystone Commons


Fitness:

Throughout the month, Hubbard Place is offering the following activities: Chair Yoga weekly with an instructor; Weight Training and Fitness weekly with a certified instructor from The Boys and Girls Club; weight room available 24hrs/day for workouts; Chair Exercise with stretching, balance and deep breathing twice a week; Walking Club twice a week with occasional trips to nature pathways; and Swimming and Water Aerobics at The Boys and Girls Club once a week.

Services:

Foot Care Clinic services once-a-month by the Ludlow Dept of Public Health Nurse; Hearing Clinic once a month by Avada Hearing Care; weekly Blood Pressure Clinic with the Director of Wellness; grocery shopping and errands provided once-a-week; and transportation to medical appointments two days out of the week.

Clubs & Social Events:

Book Club meets once a month to discuss the current read; Women's Club meeting once a month; Men's Club meeting once a month; Resident Council meets once a month; Travel Club views videos on various places regularly; Documentary showings regularly; Saturday Night at the Movies (with fresh popcorn!) every Saturday evening—new releases and classics; Coffee Clatch and Afternoon Tea twice a month; Happy Hour in the Pub once a month; Knitting & Crochet groups twice a month; Garden Club meets twice a month; “Paint Like the Masters” class offered once a month by a professional art therapist and educator; Jewelry classes by a local instructor once a month; and Almost Martha meets twice a month for various baking and sewing activities.

Games:

Pitch and Bridge Club meets twice a month; Michigan Rummy, Pitch, Canasta, Cribbage, Dominoes, Rummikub, Trivial Pursuit, Yahtzee, Musical Bingo, Pinochle, Kings in the Corner, Bunco, Backgammon, and Uno offered at various times throughout the month; Billiards available anytime; Bingo once a week; and game show DVD games like “The Price is Right” and “Family Feud” regularly.

Religious Activities:
Weekly transportation to 3 local churches every Sunday; Communion once a week with Deacon Bob from St. Mary’s once a week; in-house Mass once a month with Fr. John from St. Mary’s; and Rosary weekly.

Stonybrook Assisted Living at Keystone Commons

Fitness:

Yahtzee, Musical Bingo, Shut the Box, and Uno offered at various times throughout the month; Billiards available anytime; Bingo offered three times a week; Crossword Puzzle Challenge once a week; Indoor Bowling, Golf, and Horseshoe games regularly; Name That Tune and Trivia regularly; Joker-eno played weekly; and game show DVD games like “The Price is Right” and “Family Feud” regularly.

The Gardens at Keystone Woods

Regular services:

Van transport to Prot & Catholic services every Sunday. Van transport to shopping at two local grocery stores every Monday morning. Van transport to medical/dental appointments every Tuesday & Thursday by appointment.

Health services:

Avada Hearing tests free once a month; OnSight Optical once a month for free fittings and delivery of new glasses; Footcare the 4th Thursday of every month, by appointment.

Fitness:

Adapted Yoga for seniors with professional teacher, twice a week in the afternoons; Weight training with fitness instructor every Friday at 12 noon; Chair exercise with LE Director once a week; Walking Club every Wednesday at 9am; REIKI - relaxation & pain relief by appointment once a month; Relaxation to music - crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls etc, teaching relaxation techniques through sound vibrations & textures, once a month.

Religion:

Pastor Greg Dyson of American Baptist church, Bible study with sermon and sharing of mutual community projects, once a month. Ecumenical Bible study with Rev. Charles Summers , with communion, one Sunday per month. Bible study one evening per month with Rev. Summers.

Cognitive:

Spelling Bee, twice a month; Book-of-the-Month Club - discussion of chosen book, one Monday p.m. per month; Trivial Pursuit - twice a month; American Colonial History 10/14 & 10/21 10am 1-11:30 LECTURE & DISCUSSION.; Current Events - 10/30, 10am.

Crafts:

October 28 - Jewelry making with teacher Sandy Merrill, cost of materials only. Decorative Painting with Vi, two Saturdays per month.

Other:

Movies nightly; BINGO 3 times per week: cards nightly; Mah jongg every Tuesday night; Wii sports twice a month; Travelogues & Special movies every Sat & Sun afternoon; "Cooking with Marge" - special decorative cooking with chocolate ( our own resident offering her professional talent & teaching ); October 24 - Baking 9:30am in the activity Room; Coffee hour every Saturday 8:30 - 10:30 in the Activity Room featuring special baked items of seasonal interest; Men's & Women's Clubs meet at least once-a-month.

Specials Events:

October 3 - "Breast Care for Women" at 2pm.

October 7 - Health Fair - vendors & services, 9 - 2, Grayson House. Speaker's Forum with Roger Mudd, 7pm, Symphony Hall.

October 15 - Garden Belles Women's club fundraiser & Silent Auction, all day.

October 21 - "Life in Ghana for Children", with teacher Andrea Cox, who has formed a non-profit that offers teaching services to the children of Ghana at 7pm

October 23 - Nursing students present "Hypertension", take Bp's and fill out File-of-Life forms, 9:30 - 12noon. World Affairs Annual meeting with Senator Richard Neal - "The Latest on Ireland"

October 31 - Children's Halloween at the Gardens with decorations and candy for young children & relatives, a safe environment, fun & candy donated by our residents. "Spooky Halloween" dinner party, 4:30 - 6:30pm, prizes for best costumes.

October 1 - 'Mystery Trip" To Brookfield Orchards & lunch at Colonial Salem Cross

October 8 - "Read Aloud" and lunch at Storrowton Tavern

October 12 - "Rat Pack" show at the Majestic theater, 3pm

October 17 - Men's Club lunch out to "Opa Opa" brewery/eatery

October 22 - Leaf Peeping & lunch out at famous Putney Inn', Putney, VT, all day

October 25 - Shopping to Mall & Macy's at 2pm

October 17 - 6:30pm - Country Singer Paul Recker, with his great voice and beautiful
guitar playing along with new resident reception

October 24 - 4:30 - 6:30pm - Eddy C's Polka band plays for Oktoberfest festivities with German menue, beers & wines

October 8 - Residents can enjoy a hayride, petting zoo snacks and more at Bloomsberry Farm!

October 15th & 16th - AARP is holding a diving class at Cedars for residents as well as the outside public from 10-3

October 20 - Resident will be going to the Herbert Hoover museum to Caroline Kennedy's Doll Collection as well as general exhibits.

October 22 - At 1:30 residents can enjoy a ride to Amana Colonies and a stop at the Millstream brewery for a soda or a beer!

October 24 - Residents will get to see the Cedar Rapids Art Museum Flood Exhibit for free.

October 27 - Resident can enjoy a full course homemade meal at the Alburnett Community Historical Society.

October 29 - From 5-7 residents can enjoy a Halloween themed dinner as well as Spooky music by Dennis Hite.

October 30 - From 6pm-8pm residents will welcome trick or treaters!

October 31 - At 3:30 residents will enjoy a spooky Halloween cocktail party, games and a costume contest.

Keystone Cedars

October 2 - Football day! Residents and staff can wear their favorite team colors and enjoy a sports themed cocktail party & music at 3:30

A Duplicate Bridge club will be playing on Sundays and Tuesdays at 6:30 in the dining room.
